For a fee, they offered to reveal the secret of my diet. Frankly charlatan proposals appeared like: “Oh God! All nutritionists in the world are shocked! Click the link, pay 50 rubles, and you will learn how to lose 10 kilograms in two hours.”

I saw banners advertising some kind of “Borodina’s cucumber diet” and other strange recipes that boggled the imagination. What really shocked me was a message in one of the supposedly “official” blogs: Ksenia Sobchak revealed to Ksenia Borodina her secret “enema diet,” which (if you do enemas every evening) promises instant weight loss. Because of these damn enemas, I became an object of ridicule. But Ksyusha and I have never discussed the topic of losing weight, much less through enemas!

When I became a TV presenter, the label “fat” stuck tightly to me. I know plumper actresses and silver screen stars, but for some reason no one calls them fat. But journalists constantly wrote about me: “Ksenia Borodina, constantly experiencing problems with excess weight...”.

I am short, only 165 centimeters tall. For people like me, every extra kilogram is noticeable: unnecessary centimeters are visible at the waist, “hanging” sides catch the eye. But it’s not just that: the TV screen visually “adds” about seven kilograms. In the image, the body stretches in breadth, and any person seems fuller than he really is. I looked like an overly plump girl. People who were only familiar with my on-screen image, seeing me in real life, were surprised: “Wow, you’re not fat at all!”

And yet, at various periods of my life, I really experienced problems with excess weight. I was able to solve them successfully. I love that now I am so slim and petite. I want to remain like this in the future. The main thing is that I came to my current weight naturally, while remaining a healthy person. I did not resort to express methods, cucumbers, or enemas. After all, losing weight is work, a system.

I want to help women get in shape, like I did, and at the same time stop the ugly tricks of scammers. In this book I will share my knowledge about proper nutrition and exercise. I’ll tell you which methods are really effective and what you absolutely should not do. Excess weight problems are largely psychological problems. Therefore, I write not only about my struggle with extra pounds, but also about how I lived after becoming a TV presenter.

I. Psychology

The story of the pills

Before starting the story of my weight loss, I must tell you how the problem with extra pounds arose in the first place. This story happened to me several years ago, at the beginning of my television career.

All my adult life I dreamed of becoming a TV presenter. I dreamed of this work in my dreams and in reality, sent offers of cooperation to all well-known TV channels. My letters remained unanswered, no one was interested in my resume, and going to castings did not bring the desired result.

At some point, I despaired and decided to move to Italy - my parents live there - and, perhaps, find myself in the specialty that I received at the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism. I am a certified tourism manager. And suddenly, at the moment when my plane was boarded, I received a phone call that turned out to be fateful. On the other end of the line was a TNT employee who announced that I had passed the casting for presenters and I should come to the channel’s office.

Of course, I didn’t fly to any Italy, but rushed towards an old dream. My parents were not happy with the changeability of my decisions, but knowing what this proposal meant for me, they resigned themselves.

When I finally got to the Dom-2 project, I was truly happy. I had to host the show with Ksenia Sobchak herself and I didn’t want to lose in front of her. I tried to demonstrate professionalism: not only to be a great presenter and an interesting conversationalist, but also to look good on camera. And this is where the problems began.

I've always been great in photographs. And I couldn’t even imagine how much the video camera “dislikes” and distorts my appearance. No matter how thin I actually was, I always looked large and well-fed on camera. In general, the TV clearly does not decorate the TV presenter. Something urgently needed to be done about this.

And then I decided to try to lose a couple of kilograms. Now I clearly know: in order to lose weight, you need to work hard. But then, like many girls, I believed that you could lose weight without making any serious efforts.

One of the easiest weight loss options offered on the Internet is pills. And I chose this path.

I went to the pharmacy and bought very popular and, by the way, expensive Chinese pills to reduce appetite. It is believed that this is a completely harmless remedy for the body. So I also thought: nothing bad will happen if I take them. And I was cruelly mistaken: this drug really ruined my life.

The first couple of days I took the pills and felt absolutely nothing. Soon the feeling of hunger began to subside, then disappeared. In the mornings it seemed to me that my stomach was full and I didn’t feel like eating at all. I was happy: the weight began to drop rapidly. In just a week I lost four to five kilograms. That is, even more than I originally planned.

But I’ve been so sick all this week!

First of all, I couldn't sleep. As it turned out, the pills had a very nice side effect - they acted like energy drinks.

I lay in bed all night with my eyes open and counted not the elephants or even the lost kilograms, but the minutes until I got up. Every morning I had to go to work and broadcast. Since I couldn’t fall asleep on time, I didn’t get enough sleep. I tried going to bed earlier. Useless. In the evenings I was overcome by a wave of some kind of insurmountable and inexplicable fear. I couldn't do anything to calm myself down. It was terrible!

Secondly, during the entire period of taking the pills and for several days after I stopped, I was in such a nervous state, as if I had stable, incessant PMS. At work, I constantly lost my temper and shouted at everyone. In short, she turned into a hysteric and became disgusted with herself. What can I say about those around me - I tormented them with my fits! Perhaps someone thought that “star fever” woke up in me, but this is not so: the pills are the reason for everything. And I was no longer happy with the weight I had lost, I just wanted to get some sleep and stop being nervous.

I stopped taking these pills. Only a week after this, my appetite returned and normal sleep was restored. Everything would have been fine, but then I was overtaken by retribution for what I had done: the kilograms that quickly left me returned just as quickly, taking my friends with them. No matter what I ate, I still gained weight: I could, for example, sit all day on water and apples, and wake up in the morning and step on the scales to find more and more kilograms.

The publishing house "Eksmo" published a book-revelation of the popular TV presenter and socialite Ksenia Borodina. As it turns out, Borodina’s “mysterious method” is based primarily on common sense. Unlike numerous Internet sites that attracted audiences by illegally using Ksenia’s name, Ksenia herself does not promise miracles. After all, in essence, a good figure is sanity and working on oneself. "Hard no!"

I often come across advertisements on the Internet like “To lose weight dramatically, you need to give up just three foods!” It is usually suggested to remove bread, sugar, and, for example, butter from the diet. These advertisements look very tempting: it would seem that you eat as much as you want, all the other foods, and lose weight. But, believe me, it doesn’t happen like that. A person loses weight by getting less energy from food than he needs, and not by choosing sources of this energy.

In all the diets that I recommend in the application, some foods are excluded that have a particularly detrimental effect on the body and contribute to rapid weight gain. But you cannot completely limit yourself, for example, in fats, so that you can eat a lot of sweets that contain carbohydrates. Without fats, the body will not be able to function normally; a person will simply get sick if he eats like this!

I watched as my friend Masha tried to eat, completely eliminating all flour and sweet foods from her diet. She decided that she would not eat chocolate, candy, cookies, spaghetti, dumplings, dumplings, buns, bread and many other terribly tasty things. And Masha, I must say, has a terrible sweet tooth!

When we were going to a restaurant as a group, she could order, for example, a creme caramel dessert and a milkshake, and then wait and order a second dessert - Napoleon or blueberry pie (I even remembered what she liked). Therefore, you can imagine what Masha doomed herself to. I asked her how she was going to maintain the necessary balance of carbohydrates in the body, Masha replied that she only had vegetables, fruits and cereals for this.

After some time, we met again, and Masha looked, although unhappy when she chose salad and tea in the cafe, but a little thinner. “It’s hard for me to resist eating a whole bar of chocolate. “I can’t limit myself to one piece,” she explained. “And when it’s completely impossible, then you don’t need to fight with yourself, no means no.” I was happy for my friend, but it turned out that it was premature. After some time we saw each other again and she had regained her previous weight. Moreover, she developed many problems from the food system she invented. Masha really did not eat sweets and starchy foods all this time. It was difficult for her at first, but she persevered. And then the cunning organism itself suggested ways to solve the problem posed to it.

Firstly, Masha is “addicted” to nuts. She did not forbid herself to eat them, because they are not floury or sweet. So one day she decided that nothing bad would happen if she ate only 50 grams of almonds. But instead of 50, I ate 100. But in terms of calories, 100 g of almonds is more than 100 g of Masha’s favorite chocolate. The same thing happened with cereals. At first, Masha ate porridge only for breakfast, and at lunch and dinner she tried to fill herself with meat and vegetables. But she lacked her favorite taste; Masha, unlike me, does not like meat at all. As a result, she also began to cook porridge for dinner, and in between meals, eat a bag of oatmeal. It is not difficult to guess that the amount of calories came out almost as much as from her double portions of desserts. She generously poured butter over the porridge (after all, that was also “possible”!), which made them even more satisfying.

Secondly, Masha constantly had a stomach ache. From an excessive amount of fruit (“it’s okay”), from Coca-Cola Light, from chewing gum with sweetener, which a friend chewed two packs a day without noticing. Ultimately, Masha had to stop this “diet” and switch to a normal diet - she began to work on eating less sweets, rather than giving them up completely.

Despite my friend’s sad experience, I don’t think that forbidden foods are not the answer. An alternative just needs to be invented.

Readers probably won’t believe me, but I adore the Tarragon drink. I know it’s disgusting and you shouldn’t drink it, but what can I do? I love it. I used to also be fond of Coca-Cola and Sprite, but decided to give them up. “Tarragon,” it seems, is also a chemical, but it doesn’t make your stomach swell so much, it doesn’t make you feel bad, and nothing hurts, like “Cola” and “Sprite.” Of all the carbonated evils, I chose the lesser. I also believe that it is quite possible to give up a product such as mayonnaise forever, especially if we are talking about its store-bought version. And instead, complement the food with ketchup, since you can’t live without sauces. Ketchup has much less fat than mayonnaise. Sweet tooth, try switching with chocolates to fruit ones. Meat lovers and sausages, replace the bold “Moscow” raw smoked sausage for boiled “Doctorskaya”. Fans of flour, switch from wheat bread to rye bread.

If you love chocolate - and it contains a lot of fat - and cannot give up this product, try limiting yourself to something else, for example, using a minimum of oil when cooking. Then you can regulate the amount of fat that enters your body daily. In order to learn how to replace some products with others, you need to know your tastes well (this is not difficult) and the properties of the products, and for this you have my book in your hands.

About emergency diets

I roughly divide diets into regular and emergency. I differentiate them by the number of calories the nutritionist suggests I consume per day. And also the time required for the diet to take effect.
An emergency diet is a few days of extremely moderate eating. A person eats enough every day to get only 1000 calories. This is very little, two times less than what even the smallest woman needs, and catastrophically little for a large lady.

Foods for an emergency diet can only be low-calorie - kefir, apples, those same notorious cucumbers that Internet scammers attribute to me, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, spinach, seaweed, and so on. With such a diet, the body rapidly loses weight, burning accumulated fats. And this, it would seem, is wonderful! But. Several problems appear at once.

Problem #1. No tone

If the body does not receive just 10-20% of the calories it needs, but the entire 50%, it becomes clearly unwell. A person who is losing weight feels lethargic, sleepy, and finds it difficult to concentrate. This is very bad, especially if the profession involves mental work. This effect can be slightly neutralized with coffee or energy drinks, but not for long.
In the first two or three days of a low-calorie diet, a cup of coffee will perk you up for a while, but from the third day you can at least take a shower with energy drinks - there will still be no effect. Complete lifelessness and pale appearance. One of my friends even fainted on the third day of such a diet!

Problem #2. No immunity

On the fourth to sixth day of a 1000-calorie diet, the immune system of a person losing weight weakens. Everyone knows that from food we get not only energy, but also many necessary elements - phosphorus, iron, magnesium and so on. Therefore, people on a low-calorie diet need to take additional vitamins. I insist - this is a must! Buy at least “ascorbic acid” at the pharmacy, or better yet, a full-fledged complex of vitamins.
Low-calorie diets are a very popular weight loss system. I didn’t keep statistics, but many of my friends and I myself tried one of them. And there were many cases when a girl, because of such a diet, caught a cold in the middle of the summer heat and for no particular reason, and as soon as she stopped losing weight, she recovered.

Problem #3. No result

After all the torment, when for a whole week you can’t really eat anything other than kefir, apples or cabbage, when you missed a birthday and a corporate party in order to lose weight, when your boss has already made two comments about how you’re not working well, the “X” moment comes. You step on the scales, and it turns out that the weight is taken - minus 4 kilograms, as ordered.
The next day you, so radiant, put on a tight dress, and at afternoon tea allow yourself a s-a-a-a-scarlet cake to celebrate the end of the diet. Well, nothing like that - the figure after him is in place, everything is fine. The next day, again satisfied with your moderate appetite, you again allow yourself one cake. And suddenly something crazy happens: you want more. You, knowing that you can’t, buy it, and then another one. Moderate appetite disappears as if by hand, and the next day you eat cakes, chocolates, spaghetti, dumplings, pies and buns.

Where does this come from, what kind of misfortune is this? Why did the weight lost over the previous week return within five days, and not only the 4 kilograms that were lost on the crash diet, but also an additional 2 kg suddenly settled on the hips? Oh horror, because the goal was completely different!

In addition, if the emergency diet works flawlessly for the first time, then after a few repetitions, the body gets used to such shocks and generally refuses to lose weight. All the symptoms are present, but the weight remains the same.
To lose weight urgently or not to lose weight? Well, we have to conclude: an emergency diet is only suitable in exceptional cases. If you are preparing for a beauty contest, or getting married, or going to the seaside with friends, one of whom you care about, then, of course, try it.

Yes, after a week of kefir or apple asceticism you will lose 4-5 kilograms. But then ask those around you not to be surprised that the beauty queen suddenly gained weight, warn your new husband that he married a future fat woman, and also that guy from the group of friends whom you seduced at sea, it’s better not to see him at all later show yourself.

I'll also add this. An emergency diet is better suited for girls whose work does not require enormous mental stress. Such weight loss measures are completely contraindicated for female students during the session. If you are a financial analyst, accountant, journalist, postpone the low-calorie diet until vacation or long weekend. A little the easier it is who works as a salesperson in a boutique, secretary, administrator in a store or club. You will feel lethargic, but you will be able to work, and there will be no problems with your boss.
Despite my rather negative attitude towards emergency diets, I will still give a couple of 1000-calorie diets that I or my friends have tried, which allow you to quickly lose up to 5 kg. See these diets in the “Appendix to the second part.”
