Sockets for the hob: photo, installation. Which socket to choose for the hob? What socket is needed for the hob? Connecting the oven and hob to the mains: using a power outlet Which outlet is needed for the oven

The modern kitchen is equipped with cooler electrical appliances than starships in old movies. And it requires a responsible approach to the selection and installation of wiring and wiring accessories.

To begin with, if you decide to please the hostess of the kitchen and install a lot of modern household appliances, both small and large, first take care of the new electrical wiring. To begin with, separate the lighting and power circuits, and then calculate the amount of equipment and how much the kitchen units will “eat”. Most likely, you will need several supply circuits. In order not to hang formidable rules for households in the style of “do not turn on the washer and dishwasher at the same time!”.

Remember!!! All powerful kitchen appliances must have a separate power line from the electrical panel.

But if the washing machine can be moved to the bathroom, and not everyone has dishwashers, then the stove and oven will not go anywhere from the kitchen. We’ll talk about them, or rather, about sockets for the hob and oven.

Why does the socket for the hob and oven need to be hung on a separate power line

Electric hobs and ovens consume a lot of power (from 2.5 to 10 kW). Therefore, according to modern electrical safety rules, sockets for them require a separate dedicated power line from the shield. Moreover, if the hob and oven provide for independent installation, then they will require two sockets, with separate connection points on the switchboard.

Which socket to choose for the hob and / or oven

It all depends on the characteristics of the technology. Cooktops and ovens are either single-phase or three-phase and can have a power of 2.5 to 10 kW.

On a note! For all hobs, a separate reservation must be made. They don’t have plugs in principle, and some models can go without a cable in the kit (there are only terminal blocks). Think about whether you really need a socket for the hob? It may be more expedient to connect the power cable from the shield directly to the terminal blocks of the panel, or to connect the cables through a mini-shield if the surface comes with the cable. In this case, a plug-socket for cooking is not needed. But you should not forget about the machine and the RCD, we put them on the electric stove line. How to choose them is described below.

Single phase connection

(most common)

“Cooking” and / or an oven with a power of up to 3.5 kW are connected to a standard 16 A / 220 V socket. The oven in most cases has a regular wire and a 16-amp plug (if connected independently), so only a socket is needed. The hob does not have a plug, so you will have to select both a plug and an outlet.

For more powerful single-phase models of electric stoves and cabinets from 3.6 to 7 kW you will need a power outlet with characteristics of 32 A / 220 V and, if necessary, a special plug for 32A.

Three-phase connection

A three-phase hob and/or oven requires a 380V power supply and a 20-Amp three-phase socket if the power not higher than 3.5 kW or 32 amps for powerful brewing from 3.6 to 7 kW. If a plug is not supplied with the oven and/or hob, then a 3-phase plug with the appropriate amperage will also be required.

Remember!!! Plugs and sockets for such equipment must have a grounding contact. Therefore, they have more pins and holes. For single-phase - three (2 supply and ground), for three-phase - five (3 supply, ground and neutral). Connection without grounding is life-threatening!

Thus, it is impossible to replace special sockets for the hob and oven with models for lighting fixtures and small household appliances.

Where to install sockets under the hob and oven

There are no special requirements here. Usually this is the basement area of the kitchen and the installation height is 10 cm (upper edge of the outlet). If the oven is mounted above the level of the table, then it is also advisable to make an outlet nearby.

General rule! Do not place sockets and auxiliary equipment directly behind the equipment. Otherwise, you can get a problem - the oven or dishwasher will rest and will not fall into place. The same applies to other communications. They need to be removed either next to the equipment, or below its level, if the equipment is planned to be installed above the floor.

Concealed installation or outdoor

It's up to you whichever is more convenient. The only rule is that external wiring is carried out in a wooden house, and all appliances are installed the same. This is an electrical safety requirement, since wood is a combustible material and it is strictly forbidden to hide wires and other sources of ignition in it. By the way, this also applies to kitchen furniture. If you need to install an outlet for the oven, and a cabinet is planned nearby, then we cut a hole in the back wall and mount everything on the wall or on the wall, but not on the cabinet!

In the case of concrete or brick walls, both mounting options for the electric stove socket can be used. From a security point of view, hidden installation is preferable. But if the repair period is over for a long time, outdoor installation using cable channels will also work. During installation, avoid contact of the wire with combustible materials such as wood, non-flammable plastics.

Remember!!! You can not lay a separate wire for grounding, grounding the outlet on risers or pipes. Do not connect other kitchen appliances to the power circuit of the stove or oven. It's life-threatening.

Buy a socket for the hob, put it in and here it is happiness!

There will undoubtedly be happiness, but one outlet is not enough for him. You have to make a whole list of accessories.

Single phase connection

1. Cable. For a single-phase network, we use a 3x4 or 3x6 cable, VVGng brands (flat, round) or NYM. The cross section is selected according to the power of the technique.

2. Box or socket box. For wall mounting sockets for electric stoves, a patch box is useful. Its characteristics must match the socket. That is, if we set it to 20 A, then the box and socket have such a marking. Similarly, with 32-ampere - we take everything the same.

If the installation is internal, for example, in a city apartment or a brick cottage, then a special socket box is needed.

Of course, components and sockets for electric stoves are produced not only by Legrand. You can take cheap analogues, but we remind you that saving on safety is a bad idea.

3. Automatic machines and RCDs. As already mentioned, each powerful piece of kitchen appliances needs its own connection line to the power supply panel. And this means that you will need an automatic machine and an RCD to safely connect the cable and protect against electric shock, if it suddenly breaks somewhere on the case.

Machines are also selected in accordance with the characteristics of plates and sockets. For low and medium-power single-phase cabinets and panels (with a power of up to 4 kW), single-pole automata are installed at 20 A, for powerful ones (with a power of over 4 kW) - at 32 A. An RCD is also selected in a pair of them, one step higher than the rating of the machine. That is, for a 32 Amp circuit breaker, you need an RCD 40A / 30mA. For a 20A machine - RCD 25A / 30mA.

As a result, the scheme for connecting kitchen appliances to the power panel will look something like this.

Connecting the kitchen wiring groups to the apartment electrical panel.

Remember!!! A specialist should choose accessories and connect the hob or oven! Incorrect selection is dangerous, incorrect components, installation without protection, and other errors can lead to overheating of the wiring and fire.

Three-phase connection

We want to pay special attention to three-phase hobs. Before buying such equipment in a city apartment, find out if it can be connected. Standard wiring in old houses is 220 volts. But in new buildings and private cottages, they immediately mount a three-phase network for 380 V. For it, you will need your own components.

1.Cable. Three-phase power cable VVGng (A) 5x4 for powerful models from 4 kW or 5x2.5 if the hob has a low power of not more than 4 kW.

2. Automatic machines and RCDs. You will need a three-pole machine for 32 or 20 Amperes, depending on the power of the hob or oven, and four-pole RCDs (for a three-phase network). They are selected in the same way, with an excess of one step from the face value of the machine. If you chose a three-pole machine for 20A, then you need to take RCD 25A / 30mA. A three-pole 32A circuit breaker will require a four-pole

It depends on which hob you mean. The other day I installed and connected such a panel in my kitchen. I have a Bosch PPS 816 panel, it is gas and it only needs electricity for ignition and operation of anti-leak valves. And what is most interesting in the delivery, the plug for the socket is not included in the kit. A wire with three insulated cores comes out of the plate, it is clear that this is phase, zero and earth. The edges of these conductors are crimped and designed for direct connection to domestic wiring by means of docking blocks, blocks or terminals.

Socket for hob and oven

Well, given that the hob is a built-in appliance, then it practically does not need an outlet at all. In the same way, you can connect an electric or induction panel, only here you need to pay attention to the power consumption and take wires of the appropriate section and connecting devices, also of the appropriate characteristics and sizes. Well, if there is still a need to install an outlet, then it is better to take a high-quality one, made in Germany or another European country, but not like China. And it’s even better to put our domestic one in general, they are somehow more designed for our domestic voltage, jumps and shutdowns, and our devices have always been quite powerful.

In general, to be honest, it is not necessary to make an outlet on the hob, you can simply connect the wires by twisting and soldering, it is very reliable. Well, if you need a socket, then it must withstand sufficient power, somewhere around 25-32 amperes, at 220 volts. The hob consumes up to 7-8 kW and requires a separate cable core, with an introductory machine. Sockets can be with three contacts and with four, one and two-phase, respectively. Based on the number of phases you have, you need to choose a hob and an appropriate outlet.

An electric hob is a fairly powerful consumer of electricity, it needs not only a good outlet, but it is also desirable to conduct a separate electrical wiring line from the switchboard by installing a switch individually for it, or a switch with fuse plugs or automatic machines.

The socket must be grounded, now all the plugs go as they say "euro" - that is, they have thick contacts and a third ground contact - this is how the "euro" plug and the socket under it look like - you need to install the socket marked at least 16 amperes.

How to choose and install a socket for the hob and oven

An electric oven is a very popular piece of equipment in the kitchen. However, it must be properly installed and connected to the mains. What is needed for this? A separate outlet, because the equipment is characterized by high power. Let's discuss how to choose and install an outlet for your hob and oven later in this article.

Choosing an outlet

Examine the quality of electrical wiring

After the selected model is purchased and delivered to the home, you need to analyze the quality of the wiring. If it is very old, in most cases it will not overpower such a load as an electric oven. No extension cords will help.

What to do in such a situation? Experienced professionals strongly recommend replacing the old wiring to turn on the oven with hob.

If this is not possible at the moment, you can purchase a separate power machine. Such a power unit will react promptly under unforeseen circumstances.

If there are no problems with the electrical wiring, then you can proceed to choosing an outlet for the purchased oven with a hob.

Selection rules

The socket for the hob and oven must certainly be of high quality. The service life of both the product itself and the oven with a hob depends on this fact.

The abundance of various kinds of outlets in stores may surprise a person who is not prepared in this regard. Many brands create quality products of this kind. For example, Legrand or Bosch. But there are also many products of unknown origin on the domestic market.

That is why it is important to choose the right option that will meet all the requirements for such products.

Species diversity of sockets for ovens with a hob

How to understand which Bosch or Legrand socket is needed? To do this, you need to consider the types of such products.

Today you can buy sockets of several types:

  • for a wall-mounted wire, you should choose an internal type product. It is mounted in a hole in the wall surface in such a way that only its body remains visible;
  • for wiring laid outside, it is worth choosing an invoice type of socket. It is installed directly on the wall surface.

Main criteria

The main parameters for choosing one or another outlet option in this case will be the following factors. Let's talk about them in more detail later.

Case protection degree

To understand what kind of socket is needed, you need to study the special marking of its body. So, "A" and "B" are the digital values of the degree of its protection. Look, the Legrand socket for the hob and oven is shown in the photo below.

"A" indicates the diameter, which is closed from the influence of external factors, and "B" demonstrates the quality of the protection of the product from high humidity. In addition, it is imperative to analyze the presence or absence of a ground contact. If you have a good quality Legrand product in front of you, then it will have a ground contact. Cheap short-lived options do not have this parameter.

Connector quality

This factor is very important for heating equipment with a hob for the home. Good Bosch connectors have springs that add more rigidity to the design and thus provide a better connection.

If you choose the option with a standard connector, then soon the quality of the connection between the plug and the connectors will become unimportant. What does this threaten in the future? Heating may occur, or the socket may break, which can also cause damage to the oven with a hob.

Connection method

It is important to analyze how the electrical wire is connected to the outlet. Choose the option in which the contact area of the wire with the socket contacts is as large as possible. If you install such an option Legrand, then there should be no problems with its operation.

Smell

Cheap plastic has an unpleasant smell, such products should be discarded. Otherwise, damage to the oven with the hob cannot be avoided.

For example, the Legrand socket for the hob and oven or Bosch products are of high quality and odorless. However, such a product is also more expensive than Chinese options.

Availability of inputs for several plugs: single, double

When the hob was purchased separately from the oven model, it requires a separate connection. You will need a double socket. If the technique is combined and has one plug, then a double socket is not required.

How to install an outlet and connect the oven?

First, choose a convenient outlet location. The best option is below the level of the countertop of the kitchen set. Then access to it will be easy. Although this is not a prerequisite, in principle, the place for such a product can be any. But not near the hob.

To connect the equipment without problems, carefully study the diagram for connecting the electrical wire to it. The main thing in this matter is to correctly determine the terminals. Look for wires on the back of the device. If everything is the same color, then only the phase needs to be distinguished. This can be done using a special indicator-type screwdriver. Be sure to phase to phase, zero to zero and ground to ground. Then with the connection of household equipment will not.

How to connect the hob and oven to the same socket

December 24, 2017

An old electric stove was connected to a socket, which was connected to a cable of a certain section. This wire led to the junction box, where it was connected through the machine to the power cable coming from the substation.

How to connect the hob to a single-phase and three-phase network

That is, the connection scheme is quite simple. But the days of free-standing cooking stoves are slowly fading away. They were replaced by built-in appliances, in which the panel and oven are already separate elements. Each of them has its own power cord and plugs. And since there is only one socket, it will not work to insert two plugs into it at the same time.

Connection options

It seems that the solution is located on the surface: connect both power wires from the oven and the panel into one plug and insert it into the socket. The alternative is fundamentally wrong.

  • A cable with a cross section of 3x6 mm was laid from the switchboard to the kitchen, and a 32A automatic machine was installed in the switchboard.
  • The power cable of the hob is exactly the same.
  • The cross section of the cable for the oven is 3x2.5 mm. And it needs a 16 A machine.

What can happen if such a twist is done. There are several options: the oven can burn out, because a 32 A automatic machine is installed in the shield, its supply cable can burn out, no one knows how the oven will behave in general. In general, this connection option is swept aside immediately.

The correct connection is separate sockets for each appliance. But here another problem arises. How to make a tap from the main power cable 3x6 to the power cable to the oven 3x2.5. Directly it is impossible, because if a thin cable starts to overheat, then the protection of a thick one simply will not respond. The solution is quite simple, since the market today offers various devices with which you can neatly and reliably connect wires and cables of different sizes.

What is required for this:

  • Plastic box for 2-4 modules. Choose those that already have regular tires for zero and phase. If there are none, then you will have to additionally purchase these tires, install them in any convenient place inside the box.
  • A two-pole machine that will perform both its functions and the functions of the terminal block. It is better to choose ABB S200 series machines. The thing is that two wires are placed in their clamps at once.

And for our design, this is exactly what is needed.

  • A 16 A socket into which the plug from the oven will be connected.

Assembling the wiring diagram

So, all the materials are ready, you can proceed to the assembly. Here is a wiring diagram for all devices.

  1. A two-pole circuit breaker is installed in the box. The machines have one feature - this is the ability to connect devices to them from different sides. That is, it does not matter where the power cable is inserted, and where the outlet cable is.
  2. On the one hand, the phase and zero from the supply wire for the oven are connected to the machine. Since the machine is selected for 16 A, accordingly, it will turn off the oven if high currents appear in it.
  3. On the other hand, exactly the modules have the same phase and zero, only two wires each. One will be connected to the hob, the second is the power wire from the switchboard. That is, this is the wire that was connected to the old outlet. In this case, the plug of the hob is cut off and the connection is made directly to the machine. By the way, some models of stoves are not supplied with forks. But for the oven it is better to install a separate outlet. It can be placed inside a box (six-module) or mounted on the wall next to the instrument.
  4. It remains only to connect the ground loop, for this the tavern was installed inside the box. That is, a ground wire coming from the switchboard, ground from the oven and hob are simultaneously connected to it.

You can connect in a different way. To do this, you only need a 16 A machine through which the oven will be connected. But in the box, in addition to the busbar for grounding, you will have to install an additional bus for phase and zero. That is, there will be three tires in the box, so for this you will have to choose a larger fixture. For example, six modules.

  • The following are connected to the phase bus: a power wire (meaning its phase wire), a power wire for the hob and a wire connected to the machine.
  • Zero is connected to the zero bus from the supply wire, from the hob and the wire going to the outlet for the oven.
  • From the machine is a wire to the outlet.

It is better to install the box somewhere below the plinth of the kitchen unit so that it is not visible and that no one touches it.

In principle, these are the most correct decisions in this situation. But there is a better option. If the apartment is being renovated, and it is decided to purchase built-in appliances, then leave the old cable for the hob. And for the oven, draw a new one with the desired section. And install a separate 16 A machine on the line. That is, you will get two sockets on the wall. Each feeds its own device. It is ideal for connecting the oven and hob.

We add that today electrical circuits are supplied with various types of protective devices, where the machine plays an important role. It turns off the power supply to household appliances if an increased current has formed in the network. From this current, the carrier electrical circuits burn out. But there is another device, the installation of which is considered mandatory today. This is an RCD (residual current device).

It is necessary so that a person is not shocked when there is a breakdown in the electrical circuit, and the voltage is transmitted to the metal cases of the same oven or hob. Touching the metal, a person is shocked. If there is an RCD, then it takes these stray currents onto itself. This protective device can be installed inside the switchboard or near the socket where the box was mounted.

Sockets for the hob: how to install yourself

So, you have become the proud owner of a hob and oven. But how now to connect them to the network? How to properly and safely install these products? You will get the answer to this and much more from our article.

First of all, we note that ovens differ in the method of heating. Allocate electric and gas ovens. The gas cabinet is suitable for absolutely any kitchen. It is safe and easy to use. Products, as you know, in such a cabinet are heated from below. But it is better to entrust the installation of such a miracle of technology to specialists - an illiterate installation of this element can lead to a violation of the gasification of the whole house, which is very dangerous.

The installation of an electric oven can be done independently, it is much easier and not so dangerous. And the heating of products in such cabinets occurs evenly from all sides.

To get started, you need to answer a few questions:

1. Are the hob and oven connected?

2. What is their power?

3. Will the electrical wiring withstand the upcoming load?

Let's take a look at everything in order before we start installing the sockets for the hob.

In the event that the hob and oven work independently of each other, it is possible to connect them to different sockets. Otherwise, you will have to work with one. If the power of the equipment exceeds 3.5 kW, for their safe operation it is necessary to conduct a separate power wire and only connect it to the network using it. If you are sure that the cables will withstand a load of 16A, you can safely proceed with the installation of household appliances. If not, you should consult with experts.

Installing and connecting the hob to the network.

First of all, I would like to say that when connecting this technique, you need to be very careful not to damage or scratch it.

First of all, on the very surface of the countertop, we will need to make markings for the hob. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the distance from the edges of the hob to the end of the countertop on all sides is at least 5 centimeters. Next, using a drill at the corners of the markup, we make holes so that the jigsaw can enter them without interference. After that, using a jigsaw, carefully cut out the countertop strictly according to the markings.

And in order to prevent fungus from forming at the cut points, it is recommended to apply a sealant (silicone or acrylic), you can also stick a sealant. After that, carefully insert the hob into the hole. Attention, if the panel is inserted with difficulty, in no case should you put pressure on it, you need to make the hole wider and try to insert it again. The last step is to fix the panel with clamps from the kit (they are fixed from the bottom of the tabletop with screws and do not allow the panel to move).

In addition to the high-quality installation of the hob, its correct operation, namely, cleaning, is also important. As a general rule, the hob should be cleaned with a soft cloth or cloth (on no account should you use hard-bristled brushes or iron sponges). From detergents, the use of a soap solution or glass cleaner is recommended.

Oven connection diagram

First of all, you need to make sure that the niche for the oven is perfectly aligned both horizontally and vertically. It is important to remember that any, even the most insignificant distortion can lead not only to equipment breakdown, but also create a fire hazard in your apartment. Use a level to level the niche.

When installing the oven, remember the following conditions:

  • The distance from the floor to the niche should be at least 8 centimeters.
  • The distance between the oven and the side walls of the niche is at least 5 centimeters.
  • The distance from the back wall of the cabinet to the niche is 4 centimeters.
  • Do not forget about the presence of an outlet nearby (the use of extension cords is prohibited).

The cabinet is installed, it remains only to connect it to the network. Connecting the oven to the mains is not a difficult process. But if there is a need to remove the wire from the junction box, then it cannot be neglected.

If the power of your equipment is 3-3.5 kW, it will be necessary to set up a separate machine with a power of 25 amperes in the panel, in this case you will need a VVG 3 * 2.5 wire. And if the power is more than 3.05 W, we will talk about a machine with a power of 40 amperes and a VVG 3 * 4.0 wire.

How to correctly position the socket for the oven

When designing a box for an oven, not all owners of the premises and furniture assemblers remember one important feature: it is necessary to correctly position the outlet of the device, choosing the most suitable place for it. To do this, you need to follow certain rules.

Installing an oven outlet: basic rules

Often, in order to supply power to the device, a conventional extension cord is used. But it is not always possible to do this. Then you need to think about the location so as to place the outlet directly in the area where the oven is located.

In any case, before proceeding with the installation of the outlet, you need to familiarize yourself with the recommendations that are given in the passport for the oven. The passport also indicates the overall dimensions of the electrical equipment, which affect the choice of the box, primarily its size.

It is very important to remember that there are areas where you cannot install an outlet. These include:

  • place on the wall immediately behind the oven. This arrangement makes it impossible to use the outlet, and also makes it difficult to place the oven in the box;
  • in places where it is possible to get water on the outlet - near a sink or sewer drain. If there is a problem of lack of space and the socket has to be installed under the sink, it must be reliably protected from moisture. To provide such protection, you need to contact a professional.
  • next to the hob.

Where can I install an oven socket?

Due to the fact that electrical equipment does not tolerate proximity to water, it is first of all important that the outlet is located away from water supply and sanitation facilities.

The next important rule is that the socket for the oven should be lower than the countertop, and it is desirable that it be located in the box. But you need to remember to take care of the availability of free access to the outlet from the outside. To do this, you can remove the back wall of the box or part of it.

Permanent access to the outlet is necessary for safety reasons, as damage or fire can occur even with proper installation.

Is it possible to connect the oven and hob to the same outlet

In this case, you must very quickly disconnect the device from the network.
The socket for the oven can be installed not only in the box, but also in the following places:

  • on the wall next to the box designed for the hood;
  • on one of the working walls of the kitchen unit.

Install an outlet, if convenient, and outside of the headset.

Extension to help

As for powering from the oven to the outlet, it is usually carried out by means of an extension cord. Thanks to this possibility, the remoteness of the socket from the oven is not important.

So that the extension cord does not catch the eye and does not interfere, it is hidden. For example, you can place an extension cord behind the headset, a convenient place for it is the gap between the wall and the box. If the use of an extension cord is undesirable, you need to think in advance about the location of the device and the outlet. In this case, the socket must be installed no further than 1 meter from the installation area of the oven.

In order not to make a mistake in the installation and not to redo this operation in the future, it is recommended to seek advice from a professional or completely entrust this procedure to the master. A qualified electrician will be able to help determine the best location for placing the outlet for the oven, and, if necessary, will install the outlet. In this case, you can be sure that the oven outlet will not only have the correct location, but will also comply with safety regulations.

Socket for hob and oven

What socket for the oven should be?

Having decided to purchase a stylish, fashionable oven for the kitchen, do not forget that this equipment requires high-quality wiring and outlets. Without a reliable wire that connects the switchboard and a suitable outlet designed to operate such a powerful unit, a new oven will not last long. Therefore, when going to an electrical store, first determine what the capacity of the new electrical equipment is. Given this parameter, be aware that the power outlet under the oven in the photo cannot have a power less than this number. More power is acceptable, and even desirable. A smaller one will cause the equipment to quickly burn out.

Choosing an outlet

We calculate the power

This is the main parameter that should be followed when choosing an outlet for connecting the oven. For any model of electrical equipment, the manufacturer provides the buyer with instructions in which all technical parameters are clearly indicated. The standard amount of power consumption is 1.5-2.5 kW. Dividing this figure by the voltage in the network, we get the indicator of the current strength that occurs when the device is connected to the network. Typically, the current is 12 amps. Given such calculations, we come to the conclusion which outlet is needed for the oven. Namely, 16 amps. If, however, it is planned to connect the oven and hob to one paired outlet, its power must be at least 32 amperes. It is this stock that will allow you to use the oven and the hob at the same time without fear of a short circuit.

Other Options

Modern electric ovens are equipped with Euro standard plugs. Therefore, the socket for connecting the oven must also be of the euro type. Plus, given the power of electric furnaces, you should purchase an outlet with ceramic insides. Only ceramics can withstand excessive loads, for 2-3 hours - the optimal period of continuous operation of the hob and oven. In appearance and color scheme, there are no special recommendations. These parameters are determined by the buyer independently.

Installation

Having decided which sockets for the oven and hob are suitable for a particular case, you should consider the nuances of installing the equipment. Before doing electrical installation, you need to make sure that the wiring is suitable for such powerful devices. If the conductors are old, it is recommended to replace them with new copper or steel ones. In addition, we install 32-amp machines in the electrical panel, which will allow, if necessary, to quickly de-energize kitchen equipment. Note that some manufacturers, such as Samsung and Hanza, complete ovens and hobs with branded sockets. In this case, it is only necessary to install an outlet and connect the unit to it.

Determine the location

Before installing the oven outlet, you need to consider where to install this element. Experts say that sockets for connecting ovens and hobs should not be located in such places:

  • In the area of the sink, drain and near the water supply.
  • On the wall, in the area where the oven itself is located.
  • Above the worktop.

The best placement is the inside of the headset under the work surface, to which there is easy access. If the outlet is located above the countertop, then this should be done away from the sink, refrigerator, oven and hob.

How to properly connect the oven to the mains. What kind of wire and circuit breaker is needed?

Compliance with this rule will avoid short circuits in the electrical circuit.

Some electricians advise not to purchase a separate power outlet, but to connect the oven and hob to an outlet in the kitchen using an extension cord. Immediately discard this idea, since numerous connections lead to short circuits and fire hazards. It is better not to save on high-quality wiring and the purchase of suitable high-quality electrical equipment. Remember, the safety of the whole house depends on how correctly selected and connected household appliances are.

Which outlet for an electric oven can be selected and how to connect it correctly is shown in the video.

Summing up, we note that the choice of the outlet to which it is planned to connect the electric oven and hob should be approached as responsibly as possible. The service life of kitchen appliances depends on the quality of this equipment. Do not try to save money and buy cheap analogues. Experts recommend installing expensive electrical equipment, which will be of high quality. Only in this case, you can be sure of the safe use of the oven and hob.

Connecting the oven and hob to the mains: using a power outlet

The hob and oven are powerful consumers of electricity, which must be connected to a dedicated line with a separate socket of a special design.

Types of hobs

Depending on the design, two types of cooking surfaces are distinguished:

  1. Dependent (connected) surface. Its operation can be controlled using the handles placed on the electric oven.
  2. Unrelated. It receives power from a separate line and is controlled by its own means.

Important! An unconnected hob and oven must not be connected to the same outlet. To power each of these devices, its own line is laid.

induction cookers

Such equipment can be distinguished into a separate group not so much due to the peculiarities of its connection, but because of the unusual principle of operation, which is based on the heating of metal utensils under the influence of a powerful electromagnetic field created on the surface of the device. Such a field causes the flow of eddy currents in the metal from which the dishes are made, which causes it to heat up.

The advantages of induction cookers include:

  1. High efficiency of work and speed of heating of ware.
  2. A working stove affects only metal utensils, while not having any effect on kitchen utensils located near it.
  3. The glossy surface of a plate keeps low temperature in the course of cooking.

Currently, induction cookers are not very common, as they have some disadvantages:

  1. Inability to work with ceramic, glass or aluminum utensils (the electromagnetic field only affects ferromagnets).
  2. Quite a high price of such equipment.
  3. The presence of a characteristic sound during magnetization reversal of the material of the dishes installed on the stove.

Selecting devices to connect the panel

The power of most models of modern ovens is 3-3.5 kW.

Connecting the hob and oven. Wiring diagram, sockets

The hob consumes up to 7 kW. To connect the oven, you must use a power outlet and electrical cables with a rated current of at least 16 amperes. Power supply for more powerful models of this kitchen equipment is carried out through power outlets with a rated current of 32 A, while each of these consumers must have one outlet.

As for the choice of cable through which the hob or oven is connected to the switchboard, then at a rated current of 16 A, a copper cable with a cross section of 2.5 mm2 should be selected, and at a current of 32 A - 6 mm2.

To facilitate the selection of the required section, the following table can be used:

Most modern hobs are supplied without an electrical plug, it must be selected in accordance with the installed plug connector, as well as the device connection scheme used and the mains voltage.

Connection methods

To connect the hob, you can use one of the following schemes:

  1. Single phase circuit. It is carried out when installing equipment in apartments where there is only a single-phase network with a voltage of 220 V.
  2. A two-phase or three-phase connection used to increase the power and at the same time increase the efficiency of this equipment.

It is not possible to determine in advance one of the schemes according to which the connection will be made. Therefore, manufacturers do not equip the hob with a standard electrical plug.

As for less powerful consumers, which are ovens, they are designed to operate from a 220 V household power supply. Therefore, such equipment is equipped with a standard Euro plug, which provides for grounding contacts in its design. This configuration is possible for ovens whose rated current does not exceed 16 A.

Single-phase connection of consumers is carried out using a three-core cable, which includes a phase (L), neutral (N) and grounding (PE) conductor. If the installation of the hob is carried out in an old house, where the wiring is laid with an aluminum cable, then the line supplying these consumers must be replaced in order to ensure the required level of reliability and electrical safety.

To install the hob with your own hands, as well as connect especially powerful models of ovens, use a power outlet with a rated current of 32 A, which is necessarily equipped with a grounding contact. In appearance, such a device resembles a three-phase socket.

Connecting the line to the electrical panel

When connecting a hob or oven to an electrical panel, each of these electrical appliances should use one line, protected by its own circuit breaker. At the same time, for consumers with a rated current of 16 A, a 25 A automatic machine is used, and for consumers whose rated current is 32 A, a 40 A automatic machine is used.

It is mandatory to connect a protective earth. In consumers such as a hob or oven, the power cable has one grounding conductor, which is connected to the body of the appliance and brought out to be connected to the corresponding contact on the electrical plug. The grounding conductor has a yellow-green insulation color.

Important! It is impossible to confuse the ground and neutral conductors when they are connected. One such mistake can lead to very serious consequences.

It often happens that the wires brought out to connect the hob have the same insulation color, or their marking does not correspond to the generally accepted one. When connecting such a consumer with your own hands, be sure to make sure that all the leads are connected correctly.

If the phase conductor is easy enough to identify with an ordinary indicator screwdriver, then it is often much more difficult to distinguish the neutral wire from the ground wire. In order to do this, a tester is used.

The definition of phase, neutral and ground wires can be performed according to the following algorithm:

  1. At the installation site of the electrical outlet, which is designed to power the hob or oven, the phase wire is determined using an indicator screwdriver. It is necessary to sign this conductor or mark it with a piece of electrical tape.
  2. On the electrical panel to which the socket is connected, the purpose of each wire that goes to the consumer is determined. It is quite easy to identify the phase and neutral wires using an indicator screwdriver. As for the ground conductor, it is connected to the metal case of the electrical panel or to a special terminal block.
  3. The neutral and phase wires are disconnected from the introductory machine and connected to each other.
  4. On the consumer side, using a tester, the resistance between the phase and the remaining two wires is measured. In the case when the resistance is equal to the minimum value, the neutral wire will be found.
  5. After all ends of the wires are identified and signed, the socket is installed and the cable is connected to the circuit breaker.

Direct connection

One of the options for installing the hob is to directly connect the power supply wire to the terminal block of this equipment. In this case, the socket is not used at all. Such a connection is considered the most reliable, but it can cause a number of inconveniences when operating the hob. To disconnect it from the mains, you will only have to use the standard switch on the control panel. In the event of a failure of this switch, it will be quite difficult to de-energize the hob.

Execution of work

The procedure for connecting the hob or oven with your own hands can be as follows:

  • Selection of the section of the electrical cable with which this equipment will be connected, as well as the rated current of the circuit breaker and socket. If the power line has already been laid, then it is necessary to evaluate its parameters depending on the power of the connected equipment. If these parameters do not match, another line will have to be laid using a more powerful cable.
  • Based on the operating instructions for the hob, and also taking into account the characteristics of the household electrical network, a single-phase, two-phase or three-phase connection can be selected. To find out how the hob is connected to the network, as well as its nominal parameters, you should use the instruction manual. In addition, in most models of such equipment, there is a simple electrical circuit that is applied to the device case directly near the terminal block.

  • An electrical cable is being laid to the switchboard. The connection of the hob or oven must be carried out using a residual current device. The presence of an RCD will help to identify possible damage to the insulation in time and prevent the consequences of a phase-to-ground fault.
  • The electrical plug is connected in accordance with the marking of the wires. The ground contact always differs from the phase and zero. It may vary in shape, size and location.
  • A power outlet is installed. In most cases, hidden type wiring is used, which provides for preliminary chasing of the walls, as well as the manufacture of a niche in the wall intended for installing a junction box.
  • The cable is connected to the electrical panel using a circuit breaker and an RCD (as an alternative to these two devices, a differential machine can be used).

Connecting powerful household consumers with your own hands is, although not a difficult, but very important task, for which you must carefully follow the recommendations of the manufacturers of this equipment, as well as follow the safety rules when working with electrical network elements.

When performing repairs in the kitchen, as a rule, a new kitchen set, oven and hob are installed. At the moment, there are two modifications of the oven and hob:

  • independent devices;
  • complex headset.

Combined hob and oven

The main difference is that independent devices are directly an oven without a hob, which can be installed anywhere.

Complex devices include an oven and a hob in one housing with controls on the front of the appliance. In appearance, they resemble classic electric stoves, where the oven is located below, and the hob is located on top.

Cabinet location

To connect, it is necessary to prepare a workplace for the oven, namely a special niche in the kitchen set, subject to the following parameters:

  • The presence of distortions of the installation surface is not allowed. If the position of the oven is uneven, the distribution of heat energy inside the appliance is uneven, which, in turn, can lead to breakage.
  • Mandatory presence of gaps between the surface of the kitchen set and the oven. The reason is that during operation, the body of the device heats up and an abundant release of thermal energy occurs.

Distances from the walls of the niche to the cabinet:

  • from the side wall to the oven body - 5 cm;
  • from the bottom to the base of the device 8-10 cm;
  • gap for ventilation from 4 cm between the wall and the back cover.

Preparing the site for installing the oven

TOcable and circuit breaker

Due to the high power consumption of devices, the power of which starts from three kilowatts and above, it is recommended to power the cabinet with a separate cable. A three-core wire is suitable for this purpose (the presence of a grounding yellow-green conductor is mandatory). The cable cross section is selected based on the rated power of the oven.

With an electric stove power above 3.5 kW, a cable with a cross section of 3x4mm 2 and a socket with an automatic switch of at least 32 amperes of operating current are selected.

Cabinet connection

After completing the wiring and socket installation stage, connecting the cabinet will not be difficult. Switching of the device is carried out using a plug with grounding contacts.

The connection is recommended to be made using a separate circuit breaker due to the high power of the appliance. To ensure safety, you must use an RCD (residual current device) or a differential circuit breaker.

Depending on the design, the power supply to the cabinet can be supplied by means of a plug installed by the manufacturer or by direct connection.

When switching without using a plug and socket, a wire is laid from the switchboard, and the heating surface is connected directly to the factory contacts.

The second way of supplying voltage to the cabinet is more reliable, due to the absence of additional transitional resistance between the plug and socket contacts.

If the plug on the cabinet is not provided by the manufacturer, you will need:

  • a piece of cable from the socket to the cabinet;
  • power plug with grounding contacts.

Work order:

  1. To connect the cable, the plug unwinds and the wire is fixed in the terminal clamps.
  2. The working position is restored.
  3. The plug is connected to the socket, as a result, the cabinet is ready for use.

To connect the oven, you can use a Euro socket with grounding contacts (if the load does not exceed 16 amperes) or a specialized power socket for an electric stove. The choice is made depending on the power of the oven.

The yellow-green wire must be put on a separate terminal in a cabinet designed for grounding electrical equipment. The points of connection of the main wires (phase and zero) are switched to free contacts provided by the manufacturer.

The color of the cable for connecting the oven

Plug for hob

To supply power to the hob, a three-core copper cable must be used. For 380 volts, a five-wire wire is used.

The cable cross section is selected according to the load and the calculation of the operating current, but not less than 4 mm 2, the machine is selected for 32 A. When using a 6 mm 2 cable, the circuit breaker is used for 40 A.

The peculiarity of the hob is that the heating of the surface occurs at lightning speed. This phenomenon is due to the high power consumption (up to 7 kW).

If there is a stationary outlet for powering the electric stove, it will not be difficult to make the connection.

Connecting the hob plug is as follows:

  • A power plug is purchased that is rated for 220 volts AC.
  • The protective cover is removed.

There are six pins inside the power plug for connection. Terminals one, two and three are for connecting the phase conductor (L), as a rule, they are connected by a jumper. Contacts number four and five are designed to connect the neutral wire (N). Terminal number six is designed for a ground conductor.

  • When using a 220 volt outlet, the phase wire is connected to pin one (L), and a jumper is installed between the first three terminals.
  • The neutral conductor is connected to the fourth or fifth terminal (N).
  • The sixth terminal is designed for protective earth connection.

If the phase conductor is connected incorrectly, the protection (RCD or differential machine) will constantly work.

Wiring diagram for a power plug for a 220 volt hob

The 380 volt power plug is connected as follows:

  • The fork cover is removed.
  • Phase conductors are connected to contacts (1), (2), (3) (marked with the letter L in the figure).
  • The neutral wire is connected to terminals (4) or (5) (N1-N2).
  • Ground is connected to the sixth pin.

Sockets for hob

The 220 volt socket for the hob differs in the location and shape of the holes for the plug. These switching devices are made in such a way as to exclude the possibility of incorrect connection of the phase and protective conductor, in the form of a hole in the upper part of the socket, which is different from the others in shape and diameter.

The 380 volt sockets are a fixed five-socket switchgear designed for a three-phase load, neutral wire and protective earth.

Before purchasing this socket, you must make sure that the plug fits into the contact holes without force and deformation of the current-carrying pins.

Connection order:

  • The power cable is de-energized.
  • The indicator checks the absence of voltage on current-carrying parts.
  • On the contacts numbered from the first to the third (L1-L3), inclusive, opposite phase conductors are connected in an independent order.

For the hob, the phase sequence does not matter.

  • A neutral conductor is connected to the contact connector marked (N).
  • The ground wire is connected to a terminal designed for grounding (in some sockets it has the number six or is indicated by a “tree” icon).

Cooktop power

Depending on the manufacturer, there are several types of power supply for the heating surface:

  • connection of 380 volts using two phase conductors;
  • for a network of 220 volts;
  • the ability to switch three phases at 380 volts.

Before starting the connection, it is necessary to check the diagram with the terminal box of the device and the instructions to determine the factory assembly.

  • Socket contacts with numbers from the first to the third (L1-L3) inclusive are used to switch the phase wire.
  • Terminal number five and six (N1-N2) is needed to connect the neutral conductor.
  • For switching the protective earthing of the hob, a separate socket contact with a bolted connection with the corresponding “tree” icon is provided.

Power connection diagram for the hob

With a suitable 220 volt power supply to the hob, there is no need to interfere with the factory circuit, it is enough to connect the conductors according to the color and terminal numbers.

A brown wire is used to connect the phase conductor. The blue wire is used for zero switching. The green/yellow wire is used for the protective earthing of the hob.

For many new buildings and private houses, the power input is made with a three-phase cable with an alternating voltage of 380 volts.

Two-phase connection:

  • For a two-phase connection, a jumper between the second and third contact is removed in the terminal box of the hob.
  • Opposite phase wires are connected to the second and third terminal (L1-L2) as shown in the figure above, marked 2N.
  • The neutral conductor is connected to the fourth terminal.
  • Protective earth is installed on a special bolted connection of the hob.

With such a power supply, an accurate calculation of the power of the entire power supply of the room is necessary due to the use of two independent phases. If the load is not distributed correctly, a "skew" may occur, which will lead to different voltage values on each individual phase.

Three-phase switching of the hob:

  • When using a three-phase connection, jumpers are removed from contacts (1), (2), (3) (L1-L3) with the designation 3N.
  • The phase conductors are connected to the hob and the plug to the terminals (L1-L3), the phase sequence does not matter.
  • To switch the neutral wire, terminal four or five (N) is used. It is recommended to use the remote terminal number five for safety reasons.
  • Grounding is connected to a special socket with a bolted connection and appropriate marking.

When using 380 volts, special care is required when switching. If at least one phase wire is incorrectly connected, the hob may fail or burn due to a short circuit.

Connecting the hob. Video

You can learn about the nuances of connecting the hob from this video.

For switching the hob and oven, accurate calculations of the load of conductors and the choice of protective equipment will be required. It is strongly not recommended to use these devices without special devices for protection against leakage currents and short circuits. To perform the work, it is recommended to use the services of professionals who will calculate the load, protective equipment and select the necessary accessories.

When installing powerful kitchen equipment (oven, hob), you should follow the principles of its safe connection - use special consumables and accessories for electrical wiring. One of the important elements is the socket for the oven. If you ignore this rule, household appliances will not last long.

What sockets are needed for powerful equipment

The oven needs 16-32 A power sockets, depending on the technical characteristics of the equipment

The cable and socket for the oven should be selected according to the power of the device. It is usually indicated in the technical documentation for the technique. Basically, ovens operate at a voltage of 220/380 V. The current strength here is 25/32 A. It all depends on whether the equipment is single-phase in front of the master or three-phase.

More often, under powerful cabinets, such sockets for stoves and ovens are used:

  • For 16 A and 220 V. Designed for standard household appliances with a power of up to 3.5 kW.
  • At 32A / 220 V. They are used with single-phase ovens with a power of 3.6-7 kW.
  • For 20 A / 380 V. Designed for three-phase equipment.

All power points for powerful equipment are grounded. Therefore, they have more terminals than standard elements. For single-phase sockets, two supply points and one "ground" are provided. Three-phase ones have 3 power supplies, one for grounding, one for zero (5 in total).

Possibility of connecting the oven to a conventional socket

It is not recommended to connect the oven to a conventional socket. Fire safety standards have established that for powerful kitchen appliances, separate power lines must be installed. This is due to the fact that the oven, frying equipment consumes more power than standard appliances: washing machine, hair dryer, kettle, etc. If you do not make a separate line, the machine will constantly work in the house or an emergency will occur due to melting / ignition of weaker wiring .

The exception is ovens up to 3.5 kW. They can run on a standard outlet.

Places for installing power points

The oven socket must not be installed in the following areas of the kitchen, in accordance with established standards:

  • on the wall in close proximity to hot equipment;
  • in the area of wet objects: sink, drain, water pipes;
  • at a height, much more than the working surface;
  • near gas pipes - sockets are removed from them by at least 40 cm;
  • in close proximity to the floor - it is advisable to raise the power point by 15-20 cm from its level, ideally - 100 cm.

A good area for setting up a power point is the wall under the countertop - under the built-in furniture. Access to the outlet in this case is always open, and the area of its location remains dry. Connecting the plug to the outlet is very simple here.

Masters recommend refraining from the decision to make an outlet behind the oven. The power point should be located in a dry place accessible to the eye of the hostess. It should not be affected by temperature changes. And in any case, it is inevitable when the cabinet is working.

Another point to consider is the operation of the convection oven (steam supply to industrial installations). Even in small quantities, condensation can settle on the outlet located behind the appliance. This is already an emergency.

A power point installed immediately behind the cabinet may prevent it from being organically integrated into the overall “ensemble” of the kitchen. Equipment will unsightly protrude beyond one common line with furniture.

Determination of power

Power is the main parameter that determines the choice of an outlet to which you can connect later when installing the oven. To calculate it, you need to divide the amount of power consumption of equipment (for example, 3.5 kW) by the mains voltage. Usually the master receives a value of 16, 20 or 32 A. This socket indicator will allow you to safely install, connect and operate the oven.

Parameters to Consider

When connecting the oven and hob to the mains, it is important to pay attention to the type of plug of the equipment. More often it is presented in the European standard. Therefore, the socket must be bought from the same class. Otherwise, the money will be wasted.

Additionally, it is desirable to pay attention to the material of the inside of the outlet. It is better if these are ceramic rather than aluminum components. Only under such conditions, the power point will withstand a continuous cycle of 2-3 hours of equipment operation (standard mode for wind equipment).

In order to de-energize the kitchen as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency, it is better to provide automatic machines for 32 A in the switchboard.

Socket installation diagrams

Scheme of installation of equipment and sockets

You can connect a power point in the following ways:

  • Open installation. Provides for the use of wall outlets. Openly mounted power points without fail on wooden walls. This is regulated by the PUE. It is forbidden to cut both wiring and sockets into a tree. For concrete, brick, gas blocks, an open installation method is at the discretion of the master, if it fits into the overall concept of the kitchen interior.
  • Hidden way. It involves inserting an outlet into the wall. This method is more often used when performing major repairs in the kitchen or before finishing, since the work is rather dirty. You will have to pretty much damage the tiled kitchen apron. However, for a master with experience, this is not a problem.

From the point of view of fire safety, the open method of mounting sockets is more preferable. In addition, they can be easily built into kitchen cabinets or a table.

Possible mistakes

Sometimes craftsmen make such flaws when installing sockets under the oven:

  • Lay a separate wire, grounding the power point to pipes and risers. It's life-threatening.
  • Connect other household kitchen appliances to the power circuit of the oven. This provokes emergencies.
  • Three-phase models of equipment are connected to a single-phase electric line. Part of the burners of the hob will be blocked, and their indicators will show the remaining heat.

To choose the right outlet for the oven, you must first familiarize yourself with the technical documentation for it. A double combo socket must not be used to connect the hob and oven at the same time. A separate powerful cable is pulled for each type of equipment. If both types of equipment are on the same supply line, this will lead to the operation of the machine.

In new buildings, the issue of connecting power lines for kitchen electrics is already provided for. Therefore, here it is easier for the master to connect with his own hands.
