- Difficult aspects of Russian grammar for foreigners, N. A. Mets. The work presents the most important aspects of Russian grammar that must be taken into account in the practice of teaching Russian as a foreign / non-native language. This guide is primarily addressed...
Lately, too many jokes have been made about philologists. But how many of you can say exactly what philologists do? Of course, they learn Russian - that's one thing, literature - that's two things. Agree, it is very difficult to stretch these two classes over 4 courses, but, as it turned out, it is quite possible. Today I would like to tell you about a wonderful institute, of which I am a student - the State Institute of Russian Language and Literature. A.S. Pushkin (or, in our opinion, GIRYA). I admit, I had never heard of this institution until I started combing universities with philology specialties. By the way, there are not too many of these in Moscow. And then - lo and behold! — the only completely philological university with master’s and postgraduate courses; and as a nice addition - the specialty of RFL (teaching Russian as a foreign language). The very next day I submitted all the originals there, even though there was still enough time in the applicant race for other universities. And, fortunately, I made the right choice.
The Russian Language Institute is an unusual university, even only because both Russian students and foreigners come to lectures, studying in parallel with bachelors using the same textbooks and with the same teachers. Can you imagine the first nights of poor Chinese people studying a linguistics textbook? Personally, no! Because at that time I was sitting extremely preoccupied after an unsuccessful attempt at doing my homework. Over time, of course, everything became easier, but I will never forget that evening with a textbook in my arms and Saussure’s texts.
In general, the study of philology is carried out in two directions: literary criticism (analysis and study of works of art) and linguistics (description and study of modern processes in language). If the first is more or less clear, then linguistics is a theory of language that covers all levels of the language system: from phonetics to syntax. Linguistics also considers any linguistic processes, phenomena and simply studies language in the broad sense of the word. So, let me tell you, philologists are not those people who just read books, but also those who look at their native language as material for research.
Students of the institute live in a dormitory, which is located in a neighboring building; they don’t even have to go outside to get home. One of the small problems of our university is that foreigners are too friendly, and after a year they noticeably become annoying. Although, everything depends on luck: if you don’t live with the Turks, you’re lucky. But don’t have too much fun, because there are also Vietnamese people for whom a clean room is clearly an unusual thing. Okay, I won’t continue to tell student secrets and stories that have been passed down from mouth to mouth for generations. Come and we’ll tell you ourselves!
Like everywhere else, we have canteens, libraries, etc. The university often hosts scientific conferences, such as, for example, the Cyril and Methodius Readings and the Leontief Readings. Teachers come to them from all over the country and from countries near and far abroad. Also within the walls of the institute there is the magazine “Russian Language Abroad” (where, by the way, I work as a secretary) and the publishing house “Zlatoust”, known for publishing books and textbooks on linguistic topics.
On my own behalf, I will add that there is no university better than our native KELLY, which we all (maybe delicately) hang on its neck and, I hope, are pulling it not to the bottom, but somewhere up, to knowledge and success.
