What if the earth just doesn't exist yet? After all, it's a long time ago. As far as we know, Earth is ultimately created from the remains of the destroyed victims of the Death Stars. JK of course. The death star is not that strong.

In fact, this is the equivalent of opening a fairy tale "once upon a time." This tells us that it doesn't really matter where or when the story unfolds.

I don't think the Ark connection works as more than just an Easter egg / number match, as the Ark was not found in a numbered box. This is just what is at the very end of the film.

Here's a decent Star Wars comic titled Into the Great Unknown, in which Han and Chewie go to Earth and meet Indy. While this comic is given as non-canonical so it doesn't count, it's basically another neat Easter egg that shows a lot of connection between the two series.

While the Star Wars Battle Galaxy series did reference Earth, they didn't know if it existed or not, Star Wars doesn't mention Earth at all. This is different from saying that the opening text says, "A long time ago, in the Galaxy far, far away." It can be said that land is mentioned elsewhere, but no, it is never mentioned.

It is curious that by saying "a long time ago, in the Galaxy far, far away ...", it means the audience to which it is being addressed. So, the audience on Earth is talking about this, and the events took place a long time ago from our point of view and far from us in the Galaxy. However, the film does not in any way mention Earth at all.
